happiness at your fingertips ; 11:06 PM

HAVE you ever had those work days when everything just seems absolutely grey? The desks, computer keyboards, even the sky outside - it's hard not to feel inundated by that dull shade of bleah.

Fight that sinking feeling in an instant: Paint your nails.

According to Sally Forrest, a colour therapist at SoulCentre Academy, colours can have a powerful effect on how we feel.

Bright colours, said Sally, "definitely have an uplifting effect". For instance, orange is "the colour of joy" that can brighten one's mood. Yellow is symbolic of the sun - it radiates cheerful and positive energy.

Don't worry, this doesn't mean you have to go out and buy a bright yellow dress right away (unless you want to, in which case knock yourself out). Start small and get your happy colour dose with some of the brightest and boldest shades of nail polish available.

It's guaranteed to put a smile on your face - even when you are tapping away at your desk all day. All you have to do is look down.
